Alibaba (BABA) has failed to regain momentum this week, causing our call position to languish. With the options expiring today, they have unfortunately lost their value. The odds of a late-day bounce in the stock are low, but I will continue to watch as BABA can move quickly. If you want to sell the calls, you won’t get much for them at this point, and you would incur trading costs. For those reasons, we’ll hold the calls on the off chance we get a bump, and if they fail to make a move, the calls would expire worthless. This happens in options trading from time to time, and while I know professional options traders that don’t mind it, I don’t like and do my best to avoid it. It’s only happened twice for us this year and not at all last year, and we will get to work making that money back in the high-percentage winners that are the core of what we do together.
